This modern roast, crafted for the contemporary palate, is one of our most cherished offerings. It greets you with a chocolatey fragrance underscored by sugar and California nuts. Sweet and syrupy, it leaves a lingering aftertaste of citrus, raisins, and dates. This beautifully balanced brew is easy to drink, yet surprisingly bright and playful with a gentle acidity guaranteed to put a smile on your face, even on the groggiest mornings.

Produced by Women
Kenyan-born coffee roaster and founder of Kalya Coffee, Bea Kalya fell in love with coffee while at university in York. On a rainy afternoon in a
café not far from campus, she ordered a fresh brew that transported her back to the vast, green fields of Kenya. As she graduated and put down roots, starting a family in her new city, her connection to coffee only grew stronger. She
explored different roasts and brewing methods, revelling in the unique aromas and intense flavours of each cup. She took great pleasure in learning where her coffee came from and though she discovered many new favourites, nothing quite compared to the rich, bold essence of the Kenyan bean.
In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Bea returned from Kenya with her children. During her time there, she developed a deep appreciation for farming and built strong relationships with other women agriculturalists in her native Kericho. By partnering with Kericho-based exporter Lot 20, Bea embarked on a mission to empower and uplift women in her community through coffee production.
And so, Kalya Coffee was born- a meticulously washed Kenyan coffee sourced from the women farmers of Ainamoi Kericho, roasted by Bea in York. A cup of Kalya coffee is not just a treat for your tastebuds but also a celebration of the hard-working women behind it. Each bean is a bridge between cultures and each brew worth savouring as a reminder of what magic is made when we invest in our communities and let passion chart our course.
Grass Roots Work
In addition to her work with women producers, Bea is actively involved in grassroots initiatives. One of her most impactful projects is supporting a new nursery that distributes seedlings to young women farmers in Ainamoi. This nursery not only provides high-quality seedlings but also offers training and resources, helping young women establish and grow their farms. Through this initiative, Bea is helping to foster a new generation of women farmers, ensuring the sustainability and growth of coffee farming in the region.
